179. PRIORITISATION

Life in the United Kingdom is fast-paced, stressful, and full of unending duties. If you don't know how to prioritise, you'll rapidly get overwhelmed and continuously firefighting. Prioritisation entails determining what is urgent, vital, and can wait. It's about controlling both your energy and your time.

The bills will always be there. Work pressures will not cease. Family commitments will accumulate. If you approach everything as equally urgent, you will exhaust yourself and still remain unsatisfied. Prioritisation entails establishing a clear order of significance. Housing, health, and a steady pay cheque come first. Lifestyle choices, numerous activities, and wasteful expenditure can wait. Many Nigerians overseas experience stress because they prioritise looks over stability. 

Prioritisation is also about financial planning. Sending money home may feel urgent, but if your own rent, savings, and future are not secure, you are setting yourself up for failure. You cannot be effective in helping others if your own foundation is shaky. Knowing what to put first, and being disciplined enough to stick to it, is a survival skill in the diaspora.

Beyond money, prioritisation affects relationships and career. Who gets your time? Which opportunities do you pursue? Which ones do you decline? Without clarity, you will scatter your energy across too many things, leaving nothing completed. Prioritisation creates focus, and focus produces results. Those who master this, are the ones who make steady, visible progress abroad.

Prioritisation is fundamentally concerned with wisdom. It is the ability to distinguish between noise and necessity. The United Kingdom is full of distractions that might tire you. However, when you pick what is most important to you, and devote your full efforts to it, you acquire power over your life.
