The truth is that living in the UK may be difficult for immigrants, especially if they are starting from the bottom. You may not have the right connections, atmosphere, or information. However, when you purposefully befriend successful people, their tales, experiences, and viewpoints serve as a type of mentorship.

Many Nigerians who travel overseas prefer to stay with familiar acquaintances, who are frequently struggling as well. Comfort in familiarity is pleasant, but it does not open doors. Spending time with people who are successful in their careers, enterprises, or personal development will undoubtedly rub off on you. Youll find yourself thinking bigger, setting higher standards, and pushing beyond the limits you thought were normal. Befriending successful people, makes you believe that you too can achieve greatness, even in a foreign land.

But lets be honest: successful people wont chase you. They wont beg you to sit with them or share their wisdom. You have to be intentional. This means adding value, showing genuine interest, and being willing to learn. If all you want is to eat” from their table, youll be avoided. But if you bring positivity, respect, and humility, they will naturally warm up to you. Networking is not begging. Its building mutually beneficial relationships where both sides grow.

The mistake you must avoid is assuming that success is all about money. Befriend those who are successful in character, raising children, forming healthy marriages, and giving back to society. If you solely pursue individuals with financial success, you may find yourself imitating greed or shortcuts. True success is well-rounded. So, broaden your perspective and look beyond just who is financially wealthy. Success comes in many forms; and experiencing it, broadens your perspective on life.
